Day 01: 20 Jun 2004. Building the "North Wall Left".

On  Wednesday, 09 Jun 2004, the wood for the hut arrived. It is all furwood, logs of 95 x 95 mm2 and 70 x 70 mm2 for the frame structure, 45 x 70 mm2 for the diagonal stiffeners, and 20 x 130 mm2 boards for the side walls.

I started to do some test cuts with my circular saw in the last week. Today, 20 Jun, Joe Zender came and we started to build the "north wall left".

Here you see Joe putting together the rectangular frame. These were cut to length from the drawing with my circular saw.

Following the advise of the specialist who sold us the wood, we use angle irons to mount the structure together.

The most important tool. A circular saw (from Festool) with a table (called 'work module') and a trimming attachement. It has a movable adjustable stop and a ruler. We actually managed to cut wood accurate to half a millimeter.

The diagonals were cut by putting the wood under the rectangular frame and marking where to cut, then again to go on the circular saw to actually do it.

It is done! We finished the first wall structure. The upper log is 95 x 95 mm2, it will support the rail for the roof. The upper left will be extended to allow to roll of the roof. One diagonal is still missing, that was the one where the concrete pier was in the way when we mounted it on its future foundation. The left strut is held by a temporary wodden board.

There's me, proud to have finished our first milestone! Sunday, 20 Jun 2004, 22h15m in the evening. Thanks for your help, Joe!
